Shiro Kuramata and Andrea Branzi were members of the Milan-based Memphis group, founded by Ettore Sottsass in the 1980s. Both invented a design style that made room for colour, poetry, humour and the asymmetrical shapes that were to mark their era.

On the occasion of the exhibition "ALAÏA/ KURAMATA, Lightness in creation", the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation is pleased to invite you to a conversation between Mieko Kuramata and Nicoletta Branzi, hosted by Christian Simenc.

" Azzedine and Shiro never met, yet I find them quite close. The two of them have brought dreams and wonder to our lives, Azzedine through costumes of unprecedented beauty that revealed itself once worn, and Shiro through furnituredesigned like no one has ever imagined. " Mieko Kuramata
