Une histoire de la mode
16 €
Fashion is an art form, celebrated for its masterpieces and creative geniuses. Its history began in the 18th century with the extravagant dresses produced by Rose Bertin, the first modern fashion designer, who paved the way for the emergence of Parisian couturiers. The 19th century then invented haute couture and spurred the unbridled creativity of the 20th and 21st centuries. Corsets were abandoned and wardrobes were adapted to accommodate the vogue for sports; soon, skirts were replaced by trousers. Fashion became a place for daring new ideas, showcased in increasingly spectacular fashion shows.
Olivier Saillard paints a vivid and scholarly picture of fashion and its trends, examining over three centuries what defines the identity of each era and how the rules of elegance evolve.
