Stephen Jones, chapeaux d'artiste
Azzedine Alaïa, Trenchcoat, ready to wear fall-winter 2004-2005 - Stephen Jones, visière ph. Sylvie Delpech
The exhibition ‘ Stephen Jones, chapeaux d'artiste’ at the Palais Galliera presents the work of this British designer, who is recognized by celebrities and fashion designers alike as one of the greatest contemporary milliners. He opened his first millinery salon in London in 1980, and thanks to his encounters in the world of music, particularly Boy George, took his first steps into the world of fashion.
Thanks to his collaborations, he has been involved in some of the most iconic collections from many of the world's leading fashion houses: Azzedine Alaïa, Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Claude Montana, Thierry Mugler, Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano, Comme des Garçons, Walter Van Beirendonck, Louis Vuitton…
Azzedine Alaïa and Stephen Jones met for the first time in 1983. The couturier has just opened his own ‘Maison’ on rue de Bellechasse. He introduced him to Thierry Muller, thus ushering him into the world of Parisian couture. The first collaboration between Jones and Alaïa would only take place in 2004, for ready-to-wear, and in 2016, for Haute couture.
The Azzedine Alaïa outfits in the exhibition come from the collections of the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation.
