Hanging Garden, the first Parisian exhibition by American artist and designer Kris Ruhs, is an installation that reads like a poem. Hanging from curved structures, nearly 45,000 handmade pieces of porcelain and copper create a vertical cascade and invite you to lose yourself in a precious labyrinth.
The artist demonstrates here his ability to push the boundaries of goldsmithery and sculpture, in a monumental scenography. Each fragment strikes as a unique piece, each one being different from the other. From multiplicity and diversity comes unity - and at the end, beauty.
Kris Ruhs (born in New York in 1952) studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York and occupies a strong place in the contemporary landscape. He works on the design of stage sets, jewellery, light objects and ceramics, and is the author of an abundant body of work in the traditional mediums of art: drawing, painting and sculpture. On several occasions, he has collaborated with Azzedine Alaïa in structuring exhibition spaces and creating jewelry sculptural pieces for Alaïa’s presentations.
