Madame Grès Couture Paris

azzedine alaïa foundation

evening dress, anonymous, harper's bazaar, 1939

Presentation and signing by fashion historian, poet and performer Olivier Saillard of the monograph on the iconic Parisian designer Madame Grès, considered by her peers to be the guardian genius of French haute couture, in the presence of Anne Graire, Madame Grès's granddaughter.

Known for her signature draping and innovative asymmetrical gowns, Madame Grès (1903-1993) was one of the leading fashion designers of twentieth-century Paris. Trained as a sculptor, her haute couture creations, both complex and delicate, evoke ancient statuary and exude a timeless elegance.

This volume features stunning photographs of Madame Grès's dresses, displayed like works of art in the exclusive settings of the Bourdelle Museum and the SCAD FASH Museum in Atlanta.
