Paul Poiret

1879-1944

SELECTION

After working for Jacques Doucet as a fashion illustrator and then for the house of Worth, Paul Poiret founded his own fashion house in 1903. His style was influenced by the Orientalism that was in vogue. An avant-garde couturier, he liberated women from the corset by favouring high waists. An art collector, he was also the first couturier to create his own perfume house in 1911.
